Senior Chinese and Togolese Military Officer Hold Talks

Fu Quanyou, chief of general staff of the People's Liberation Army of China, held talks with Zakari Nandja, chief of staff of Togolese armed forces Tuesday.

Fu, who is also a member of the Central Military Commission, said that relations between china and Togo have been growing steadily since the establishment of diplomatic ties.

He said that the two countries have been cooperating in various areas.

Fu thanked Togo for its adherence to the "one-China" position and for supporting China on the human rights issue.

Fu also briefed Nandja on China's views on the current international situation, China's foreign and defense policies, economic development and military building, as well as China's position on the Taiwan issue.

Nandja said that he appreciates China's role in maintaining peace and stability in the world and in the region. He thanked China for its long-term support and aid. He said that he hopes the two countries will further their cooperation.

Nandja reiterated that Togo will continue to adhere to the "one-China" position.

Nandja is here on a seven-day visit to China at the invitation of Fu.
