Turkish Minister Confident on Ankara-Beijing Ties

Turkish National Defense Minister Sabahattin Cakmakoglu has expressed determination to further boost Turko-Chinese relations, reported the Anatolia News Agency on Tuesday.

Cakmakoglu made the remarks in a statement issued Monday upon his return here from a five-day visit to China.

He said that the cooperation between Turkey and China have developed rapidly since diplomatic relations were established between the two countries in 1971.

Cakmakoglu said that Turkey attaches vital importance to the promotion of relations with China and high-level visits and contacts between the two sides will play an important role in the improvement of bilateral relations and friendship between the two nations.

The two nations shared social and cultural influence on each other in the past and these historic ties have laid the suitable groundwork for further improving their bilateral ties, said the minister.

During his stay in Beijing, Cakmakoglu was received by Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao, and held talks with his host Defense Minister Chi Haotian.

He also visited China's eastern city of Shanghai and western city of Xi'an.
