Africa Gets $500M in Credits to Battle AIDS

The World Bank has approved $500 million in credits to help Africa combat the AIDS epidemic and will propose an additional $85 million to $100 million in loans for countries in the Caribbean. The bank said the first two African countries to benefit will be Ethiopia and Kenya, which will receive $59.7 million and $50 million respectively. Nearly 25 million of the world's 34.5 million AIDS victims live in Africa and some 15 million Africans already have died from the disease. U.N. experts estimate African countries need $1 billion to $3 billion a year to combat AIDS.
