Li Peng Returns to Beijing

Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), returned Beijing Tuesday afternoon after attending a U.N. meeting and visiting six countries.

During the trip, Li attended the Conference of Presiding Officers of National Parliaments at the United Nations headquarters in New York from August 30 to September 1. He also met with 30-odd parliament leaders and dignitaries during the meeting.

Starting from September 2, Li paid official goodwill visits to Iceland, Lithuania, Belarus, Estonia, Latvia and Russia.

Those who returned aboard the same plane included Li's wife Zhu Lin, NPC Standing Committee Secretary-General He Chunlin, NPC Standing Committee members Wang Weicheng, Li Boyong, Fan Jingyi, Shi Yuxiao, Zhu Yuli and other senior officials.

Among those greeting Li and the delegation at the Great Hall of the People this afternoon were NPC Standing Committee Vice-Chairman Tian Jiyun, State Councilor Luo Gan, NPC Standing Committee Vice-Chairman Tomur Dawamat, and other senior Chinese officials and diplomatic envoys from relevant countries.
