DNA Technology Helps Reunite 418 Families

The Ministry of Public Security said yesterday that by taking advantage of DNA technology, Chinese police have helped 418 abducted children find their parents.

During the April-July period this year, China conducted a nationwide campaign against trafficking of women and children, with the help of advanced means such as information networks and DNA technology.

Zhu Yantao, a senior police officer with the ministry, said that such large-scale application of DNA technology is the first time in the police sector worldwide.

The ministry has invested dozens of million yuan to establish a DNA data bank, Zhu said.
