Taiwan Stocks Fall 2.25 Percent

Taiwan stocks closed down Monday with the weighted index plunging 142.61 points, or 2.25 percent at 6,209.42, according to local media.

The turnover was 59.48 billion new Taiwan dollars (1.9 billion US dollars), a decrease of 32.96 billion new Taiwan dollars (1.05 billion US dollars) from 92.44 billion new Taiwan dollars (2.95 billion US dollars) on Saturday.

All the eight major categories lost ground, with electrical shares moving down the most at 2.9 percent, followed by cement stocks, textile issues, pulp and paper issues, bank and insurance shares, construction stocks, foodstuff shares and plastics and chemical stocks.

The bourse opened at 6,336.3 and fluctuated between 6,338.5 and 6,203.47 during trading.
