Top Chinese Legislator Meets Deputy Speaker of Croatian Assembly

Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), met Tuesday with Zdravko Tomac, deputy speaker of the Croatian Assembly, and his delegation.

Li expressed thanks for the warm reception he received during a visit to Croatia last June, and said that the Chinese people have friendly sentiment for the Croatian people, and respect the choice made by the Croatian people and wished the Croatian people even more success in their national development.

He said that the Chinese NPC is willing to maintain and develop friendly relations with the Croatian parliament in various fields.

Tomac said that Li's visit to Croatia promoted exchanges between parliaments of the two countries and Sino-Croatian relations as a whole.

He said that China, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, is playing an increasingly important role in the international affairs, adding that Croatia agrees with China's stance on multi-polarity and other major issues.

The Croatian parliament and government adhere to the one-China principle, and are ready to further Sino-Croatian relations, he added.

He said that the delegation members were excited to see for themselves China's development, adding that he is waiting for a delegation from the Sino-Croatian friendship group of the NPC to visit Croatia next year.
