Meles Reelected as Ethiopia's Prime Minister

Meles Zenwai was reelected on Tuesday as Ethiopia's prime minister to serve for another five-year term.

Meles, who has been the country's prime minister since 1995, retained his job, when the first regular conference of the House of People's Representatives, the country's parliament, voted unanimously in his favor.

Meles was the sole candidate in the election, according to an official with the parliament election committee.

Following the election, the parliament also approved a proposal by Meles for his cabinet to remain in office until the necessary organizational changes are needed, said local media reports.

Meles' cabinet members will remain to finish projects, which they started five years ago and were interrupted by the two-year border conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea, the reports said.
