Fifty-two Taiwan Enterprises to Attend Western Forum

Fifty-two Taiwan enterprises, including President Enterprises Corp., will attend the Western Forum scheduled for October 20-23 in this capital of southwest China's Sichuan province.

Taiwan enterprises participating in the forum are second largest group to the forum, just next to those from China's mainland.

Forum organizers said that 113 renowned foreign companies have signed on for the event, including 69 of the world's top 500 industrial enterprises. Leading officials from 79 Chinese major enterprises will attend.

An official from the Taiwan Affairs Office of Sichuan Provincial Government said that by the end of last year, Taiwan businessmen had set up 1,000 enterprises in the province, involving a total Taiwan investment of 1.2 billion U.S. dollars.

More than 20 of Taiwan's top 100 enterprises have invested in Sichuan, said the sources.

The official has attached great importance to protecting the rights and interests of Taiwan compatriots who invest in the province. Sichuan Provincial People's Congress issued a local law on protecting Taiwan compatriots' investment in 1995.

At the same time, a Taiwan businessmen complaints center, Taiwan businessmen investment service center and other services have been set up across the province to assist Taiwan compatriots who invest in Sichuan, according to the official.

The upcoming forum will focus on the relations between the Chinese economy and the globalization of the world economy.
