Chinese Women Across Taiwan Straits to Hold Symposium in Beijing

The Second Cross-Straits Women Development Exchange Symposium will be held in Beijing from October 28 to 30.

More than 400 Chinese women from the mainland of China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and abroad will attend the meeting.

Gu Xiulian, vice president of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), said at a news briefing today that the exchanges between women across the Taiwan Straits have gained remarkable development since the first cross-Straits women symposium in 1993.

The ACWF has established contact with more than 20 organizations headed by women in Taiwan, and various visits and exchange activities have been held in recent years, said Gu.

More than 200 representatives from Taiwan and 32 delegates from Hong Kong and Macao are expected to attend the coming symposium, according to Gu.

Participants will discuss economy, social service, education, culture, information science, health care and environmental protection.
