China to promulgate New Policies on Western Development

The State Council, China's central government, is drawing up new policies to speed up the development of western China.

These policies, to be promulgated later this year, cover a widerange of subjects including investment, science and education, said an official of the State Council Western Development Office Friday.

The state will increase government investment and other financial support for provinces in western China and improve the investment environment in terms of income tax, land use and pricing.

China will expand the fields open to foreign investors, broaden the scope of overseas investment in China and adopt more flexible policies in foreign trade, the official said.

Other policies include better utilization of technical personnel, increased input in education and the improvement of public health.
