Overseas Media Focusing Western China

The "Western Forum of China", which is scheduled to be opened on October 20 in Chengdu, capital of southwestern China's Sichuan Province, has attracted more than 500 journalists from 177 overseas media.

According to the organizing committee of the forum, the Reuters, AFP, Washington Post, Le Figaro and Australian Broadcasting Corporation are among these media.

Low You Chai, co-ordinator of China western province, Nanyang Siang Pau of Malaysia, said that they were most concerned with the influence on the Chinese economy brought by the exploration of western China.

He also noted that the forum has provided a rare opportunity for his paper to collect information about China.

China has made remarkable progress in the past two decades, which demonstrated China's consistent strive to become stronger, said Low.

Odilon Couzin, China correspondent of Public Radio International of the United States, said that he wanted to learn more about the commercial potential of China's western area.
