Kunming-Shilin Expressway to Be Constructed

Land acquisition for building an expressway from Kunming, capital of south China's Yunnan Province, to Shilin, a world renowned tourism resort known for its karst landscape, was officially completed Friday.

Construction of the expressed, estimated to cost 3.86 billion yuan (about 466 million U.S. dollars), will start in November this year and lasts three years.

The 78-km and six-lane expressway will make it easy for tourists to visit the Shilin Yi Autonomous County, which is named after the famous Stone Forest, as it will cut the travel time from nearly two hours currently to some 40 minutes.

Due to its peculiar scenery and rich ethnic color, the county attracts more than two million tourists from home and abroad every year.
