Singapore Airlines Flight Turns Back to Southeast Australia

A Singapore Airlines flight from Sydney to Singapore Wednesday night was forced to turn back mid flight after the pilot noticed a generator fault in one of its engines, the Australian Associated Press (AAP) reported Thursday.

The AAP quoted a statement released by the airline early Thursday as saying the aircraft was forced to turn back and land in Brisbane in southeast Australia.

The flight SQ232, from Sydney to Singapore, developed a generator fault three hours into the flight, the statement said.

"As a precautionary measure, the captain turned back and landed the plane in Brisbane for a mechanical inspection," the statement said.

The plane departed Brisbane at 2.11 a.m. (local time) after work was carried out on the Boeing 777-300 series.

The incident came a day after a passenger jet of the airline crashed on take-off at Taipei international airport, killing 79 passengers, the AAP said.
