Globalization Brings Disadvantages to Africa: Kenyan President

Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi has said that economic globalization is causing disadvantages to many developing countries, especially those in Africa, the East African Standard newspaper reported Thursday.

"Although globalization presents easy economic opportunities for some countries, this is not universal," Moi said on Wednesday night during his official visit to Botswana.

He observed that new opportunities for increased foreign direct investment, and access to bigger markets, technology and information for accelerated growth are lacking in most African countries.

To counter the negative side of globalization, the president argued that closer consultation and cooperation are necessary if developing countries want to present a stronger response to globalization and win the fight against poverty and disease.

Cooperation is important in eliminating conflicts as well as combating natural disasters, he said.

Moi arrived in Botswana on Wednesday and is on a three-day official visit to the south African country.
