China to Become World's Second Biggest Aviation Market

China will grow to be the world's second largest civil aviation market following the United States in the next 20 years, said a senior Boeing Official Friday in Beijing.

During the period, the growth rate of China's civil aviation sector will reach 9.2 percent, much higher than the world average of 4.8 percent, said Randy Baseler, vice president-marketing of the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group, at a press conference held Friday.

According to Baseler, China is expected to have 2,200 airplanes by 2019, accounting for 10 percent of the world total.

China currently has 499 jet planes, 348 of which were made by Boeing.
