Academic Circles Mark 90th Anniversary of Mathematician's Birthday

Academic circles in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, convened Saturday to mark the 90th anniversary of late mathematician Hua Luogeng's birthday.

Participants at the meeting included Qu Qinyue, Yang Le, Wang Yuan, Ma Zhiming, Shi Zhongci and Li Daqian, all academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and 500 experts and scholars from across the country.

Hua, one of the founders of modern research on mathematics in China, was born in Jintan of Jiangsu Province and died in 1985 in Japan from a heart attack.

At the meeting, Wang Min, Jiangsu's vice governor, Wang Yuan and a representative from Hua's Alma Mater, Jintan High School, said they valued highly the great achievements made by the well-known mathematician.

The CAS also organized a series of academic lectures in Nanjing.
