China Starts Largest Potash Fertilizer Project
A potash fertilizer plant with an annual production capacity of one million tons broke new ground November 16 in northwest China's Qinghai Province.
The plant is one of the first ten major projects in the country's strategy of developing western regions and also the only high-tech project of the ten.
The project, which will take three years to complete, involves a total spending of 3.2 billion yuan.
Qinghai is rich in natural resources, and statistics indicate that the salt reserves in its Qaidam Basin total more than 60 billion tons, and its potash resources account for 97 percent of the country's total.
