Meritorious Army Units, Experts Rewarded

Five military units and seven army experts have been given awards by the Central Military Commission (CMC) for their meritorious deeds.

Most of the units and individuals rewarded are involved in hi-tech sectors or medical fields.

Jiang Zemin, Chinese president and CMC chairman, signed a degree recently to issue first-grade awards to four individuals and four units, including the troops responsible for the projection of satellites and "Shenzhou", China's first experimental manned-spacecraft.

Two second-grade prizes went to an expert on liver-cancer and also to the center responsible for guiding and controlling space activities.

The two third-grade award winners were a medical expert and naval engineering researcher.
