Man Convicted for Selling Fossil Dinosaur Eggs

A man was condemned to two and a half years in prison and fined 3,000 yuan (361 US dollars) recently for selling fossil dinosaur eggs in central China's Hubei Province.

On June 25, this year, the police detained He Wenjun, his wife and other confederates in a rented room in Shiyan City in Hubei, after three days of surveillance by police. In the room, the police found 493 dinosaurs eggs, loaded in 28 wooden boxes.

The man confessed that he collected the eggs from two local farmers, of Yunxian County in Shiyan City, and waited for chance to sell them at a profit.

The Qinglong Mountain area in Yunxian County is a most concentrated site in the world for fossiled dinosaur eggs. Rampant illegal activities of digging and selling the fossiled eggs have been reported in recent years.
