China Expects Major Breakthrough in International Scientific Cooperation
China is to begin to invite foreign experts to evaluate its major scientific discoveries and appraise the academic level of the country's scientific research institutions.
This is part of a series of steps to be taken to help realize a major breakthrough in scientific and technological cooperation in the coming 21st century, said Ma Songde, Vice Minister of Science and Technology Monday.
He said at a meeting with over a dozen senior scientists that his ministry is to encourage research institutions of information, biology, new materials and other fields of strategic importance along with high-tech ventures to establish independent or jointly run research institutions abroad.
He added that his ministry will also push forward the building of an international cooperative network for industrialization of high-tech discoveries.
The vice minister said China will actively take part in regional and global scientific research programs in resources, environment and public health.
China also hopes to join major scientific programs involving experiments dealing with high-energy physics and some other frontier science fields.
Zhang Zhiqin, vice director of the international cooperation department of the Ministry of Science and Technology, said China is keen to take part in the world's major scientific programs such as the Alpha International Station program.
China is seeking overall high-level scientific cooperation with scientifically advanced countries in the new century.
Ma Songde added that China is to open more research projects of the country's major high-tech development program and major basic research program to overseas scientists.
