Shanghai Stock Exchange Marks 10th Founding Anniversary

Shanghai Stock Exchange, the first of its kind in China since the founding of new China in 1949,marked its 10th anniversary in China's leading financial center of Shanghai Tuesday, December 19.

Gao Xiqing, vice chairman of China Securities Regulatory Commission, praised the achievements of the Shanghai Stock Exchange at a celebration ceremony held Tuesday evening.

He said the stock exchange not only made achievements on the number of listed companies and the trade volume, but also played an important role in pushing ahead technological innovation and economic growth of the country.

Zhu Congjiu, general manager of the Shanghai Stock Exchange, claimed that their stock exchange had become a rising market and attracted much attention in the Asia and Pacific regions.

He said Shanghai Stock Exchange had effectively promoted the growth of the country's stock market.

The number of listed companies in the Shanghai Stock Exchange has increased from eight 10 years ago to 548 at present.

The number of investors of the Shanghai Stock Exchanges in 1992 was 1.1 million while the number has come to nearly 29 million now.
