Indian Ship Collides in Panama Canal
An Indian ship partially sank after colliding against one of the walls in Corte Culebra in the Panama Canal, the Panama Canal Authority (PCA) confirmed Monday, January 8.
The ship, heading towards the Atlantic Ocean, ran aground Sunday. No casualty was reported and the accident did not interrupt the canal's traffic, a communique of the PCA said.
Only the bow of the ship sank, and the situation was immediately put under control. The ship was repaired in the Gamboa dockyards, 50 kilometers away from Panama City, it said.
According to the PCA, there was fog when the accident occurred and the satellite-navigation system was out of service. The investigation of the causes of the accident was underway.
The Indian cargo ship is 28 meters wide, 197 meters long and transports ferrous material.
