China Has 122 First-Class Tourism Cities

The National Tourism Administration of China has selected another 68 cities as the country's first-class tourism cities, which makes the total number now 122.

He Guangwei, director of the administration said at a conference on national tourism that the selection will benefit the healthy development of China's tourism industry and help tourism take a bigger share of the economic growth.

He pledged that China will try to improve the environment of major scenic spots and the services so as to develop into a large tourism country by the year 2020.

The National Tourism Administration started the selection in 1995 and 54 cities passed the review and became the first group of first-class tourism cities in China in 1999.
