Indonesian House to Ratify Agreement with Hong Kong

The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) will ratify an agreement on the Surrender of Fugitive Offenders with the China's Hong Kong administrative authority, Speaker Akbar Tandjung said in Jakarta Monday.

Tandjung said before the plenary session of the House that, "the House will ratify an Agreement Between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of Hong Kong for the Surrender of Fugitive Offenders," within the ongoing session period, starting from January 15.

"...concerning the ratification of the agreement between the Indonesian government and the Hong Kong government, we will do that as part of our cooperation in the sector of law enforcement with Hong Kong," Tandjung told Xinhua after presiding over the plenary session.

"But I still don't know in detail on the contents of the agreement," he added.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the House Commission I for security and foreign affairs Yasril Ananta Baharuddin said, "That is a kind of an extradition agreement between the Indonesian government and Hong Kong authority."

"The agreement would be ratified to clear the way for the both sides to conduct exchange of criminal fugitive," he told Xinhua after attending the session.
