First Ice-Snow Festival in South China Opens

The first ice-snow festival in southern China opened in Sichuan Province Tuesday, January 16.

The festival was held in the snow-capped Xiling Mountain area and six neighboring forest parks including Jiuzhaigou Scenic Resort, Wolong Giant Panda Nature Reserve and Wawushan State Forest Park.

Tourists will be able to try their hand with a variety of snow installations including sled, motorcycles, parachute and hot balloon. The festival will last till early March.

The festival aims to promote winter sports and tourism development in southern China, said an official with the National Tourism Administration.
