New Year Letter from Personnel Minister to Overseas Chinese Students(abstract)

Friends,

The Spring Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday for family reunion. While you are living overseas, far away from the motherland and your relatives, studying hard to grasp world advanced technology and management expertise in order to serve the country. Your ambitious ideal and achievements have been widely praised and fully affirmed by society.

China has a history of over 100 years in sending students to study abroad since 1872. During this period, large numbers of outstanding overseas Chinese students have dedicated their life-long energy and all talent for the cause of the motherland and the people. Especially since the reform and opening up, more than 110,000 overseas talents have returned to China to work in all fields of endeavor and the majority of them have made great contribution to the development of the national economy, science and technology, culture, education and other social undertakings. Your actual deeds have proved that returned Chinese students are the valuable wealth of the country and an important force for national economic and social development.

Presently, China enjoys political stability and sustained and sound economic and social development and thriving socialist modernization undertaking. People of all nationalities of the country are working hard for realization of the third-step magnificent goal. At the dawn of the new century, the State has set a strategic task to train, attract and properly use high-quality talents. An ever-broader scope and area are provided for returned overseas Chinese students to start enterprises and serve the motherland.

The new century brings fresh hopes, opportunities and challenges and Chinese people are full of confidence to greet it. We have a promising future and we hope all students studying abroad will continue to support the modernization drive and make their due contributions.
