Hong Kong Stocks Fall on Telecom, Internet Losses

Hong Kong stocks fell slightly Friday Feb 2 on the losses of Internet and telecom shares.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index lost 92.70 points, or 0.57 percent, to end at 16,071.29, with a turnover totaling 6.963 billion HK dollars (892 million U.S. dollars), compared with Thursday's 9.491 billion HK dollars (1.216 billion U.S. dollars).

All of the four sub-indices posted losses, with Finance, Utilities, Properties, and Commerce and Industry down 0.44 percent, 0.37 percent, 0.92 percent and 0.57 percent, respectively.

China-related stocks ended higher with the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index up 0.35 percent and Hang Seng China-Affiliated Corporations Index up 0.89 percent.

The Hang Seng IT Index lost 0.16 percent, while Hang Seng IT Portfolio Index gained 0.43 percent.

The blue chips gained 1.44 points, or 0.01 percent, to open at 16,165.43 Friday, and dropped 40.99 points to close the morning session at 16,123.00.
