Leaders Shanghai Lose Again in CBA

The leaders Shanghai Sharks lost their second matches in the last three and the winners of the regular season at the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) are left to be decided in the next and final round of the first-division league.

The Sharks lost their third game this season to the Liaoning Hunters, 98-86, in Fushun, Liaoning Province.

They collected 39 points after the 21st round, only one point adrift the defending champions Bayi Rockets, who thrashed the lowly Jinan Army, 136-106 at home in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province.

The five-time winners Rockets are set to win the final game of the regular season when they meet the Zhejiang Cyclones, who have never beat them in the league, while the Sharks will have a tough match against the Jilin Northeast Tigers, who beat them in their first encounter.

The Rockets and the Sharks split their two meetings in the regular season but the military team had the upper hand with points advantage.

Despite a 110-82 surprise loss to the Vanguard Aoshen on the road, the Beijing Ducks remain at the third place on the standings with 35 points (14-7).

All the home teams won in Wednesday's matches. The Jiangsu Dragons disposed off the Shandong Flaming Bulls, 98-86, while the Guangdong Hongyuan kept The Shenyang Army's winless record with a 102-99 victory.

The Jilin ended Zhejiang's hope to enter the post-season with a 131-126 win.

The top eight teams of the regular season will play the post- season while the last four enter the relegate round.
