Situation Along Thai-Myanmar Border Returns to Normal

Tension along the Thai-Myanmar border is easing and situation is returning to normal following a cease-fire agreement between military officers of the two sides, the Thai News Agency reported on Monday.

Thousands of villagers along the border in the northern province of Chiang Rai, where was the focus of yesterday's clashes, were returning to their homes after being evacuated out of the areas for hours, said the report.

Border trade along the border in Mai Sai district of Chiang Rai has been opened as usual since around 07:00 a.m. today after the border pass was closed Sunday, a senior official in Mai Sai was quoted as saying.
