Wuhan to Revamp Bund along Yangtze River

The project for renovating the bund along the Yangtze River in Wuhan's Hankou section has started construction in the first spring of the new century.

Extending over 9.8 km, the project comprises eight parts including face-lift of historical architectures, reconstruction of roads and streets, the laying of underground wires and pipes, and reforestation of the streets.

The avenues flanking the Yangtze in Hankou have 12 historical structures in diversified architectural styles formed in the former concessions held by Britain, Russia, France and Germany. Built from the early 19th century to 1930s, these buildings are old-fashioned or dilapidated, some are covered with ads and some are even besieged by illegally-built shops. Traffic along the avenues is in disorder, electric wires criss-crossing the avenues are in a jumble.

In view of the above situation, the renovation plan proposed by related departments will feature a perfect combination of historical sites with modern street scenery to regain beauty of the city.
