Talks Between Colombian Government, Guerrilla Resumed
The Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the major guerrilla faction in the country, resumed their talks Wednesday after three months of suspension.
During the five-hour talks held in the locality of Los Pozos, in San Vicente del Caguan, the two parties discussed the issues such as the agenda established in the "Los Pozos Agreement" signed last Friday between President Andres Pastrana Arango and the guerrilla chief Manuel Marulanda as well as the creation of two special commissions.
On February 15, the two sides will continue their negotiations in Villa Nueva Colombia to define the creation of the two commissions.
Meanwhile, the FARC also returned the first group of 62 children fighting in its ranks, according to the High Commissioner for Peace Office.
These minors will return to civilian life and will be educated with resources from the government and friendly countries, said the office.
This move was welcomed by different civil society and international community sectors, which expect FARC will return every guerrilla child at its service.
