Beijing to Build Liulichang Cultural Park

Liulichang Cultural Park is to be built in the Liulichang area to carry forward the history of its unique culture and promote economic development in this southern urban part of Beijing as is reported by news media.

Liulichang with a history of 700 years has nearly 100 shops and 172 stalls dealing with cultural relics, ancient and second-hand books, four treasures of the study, i.e. writing brush, ink stick, ink slab and paper as well as traditional arts and crafts on its cultural streets. Liulichang has thus been regarded as one of world-renowned cultural corridors in China.

According to authoritative sources, two symbolic buildings have been planned in Liulichang Cultural Park, namely, the Orient Antique Tower and the International Cultural Exchange Center. Four professional areas, a commercial district, traditional crafts plaza, sightseeing district and a comprehensive development area, and eight business streets of books, jades, porcelains, sculptures, bronze wares, calligraphic works and paintings, four treasures of the study and musical instruments will be built.

It is reported that the cultural park, as mapped according to Beijing's cultural industry development strategy, will bring a boost to economy in this southern part of Beijing and development of its high-tech and culture industries.
