Beijing Able to Host Olympic Games: FM Spokesman

With rich experiences, Beijing is able to host the Olympic Games well, foreign ministry spokesman Zhang Bangzao said Tuesday, February 20.

"We support Beijing's bid for the hosting of the Olympic Games," Zhu said during a regular press conference after being questioned about the current visit being made by Olympic officials to China.

Beijing has accumulated valuable experiences from hosting a number of national-level sports meetings and large, influential international contests, he said.

If the International Olympic Committee approves Beijing's bid, we believe that Beijing is able to well handle the event, he said.

"If the Olympic Games in the summer of 2008 could be hosted in China, which has one quarter of the world's population, it would help boost the popularization of Olympics among the masses," he said.
