Collection of Japanese Dolls to Be Displayed in HK

A collection of Japanese dolls will be displayed in Hong Kong from February 23 to March 3 to enhance the public's understanding of the traditional Japanese art.

The exhibition, sponsored by the Japan Foundation and co-organized by Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong, will feature a number of colorfully-painted and exquisitely-dressed Japanese dolls reflecting lives of the Japanese nation through the old times to present days.

All the dolls to be displayed are valuable pieces from the Japan Foundation, and the most expensive one is a Gogatsu Ningyo, a doll created in celebration of Boy's Festival in Japan.

In Japan, dolls have been a part of people's everyday life since ancient times. Japanese dolls reflect the customs of Japan and the aspirations of its people, possess distinctive regional and national attributes.
