Three Proposed Games Venues Be Reviewed, IOC Inspectors Suggest

An International Olympic Committee (IOC) evaluation team wrapped up on Saturday a four-day inspection tour of Beijing, one of the five candidate cities for the 2008 Olympic Games, recommending three proposed venues to be reviewed.

While praising the existing sports complex in Beijing as "excellent", Hein Verbruggen, chairman of the IOC evaluation commission, suggested to the Beijing Olympic Bidding Committee (BOBICO) that the planned venues for beach volleyball, mountain bike and triathlon be reconsidered.

The related international federations had asked for a change of the sites, Verbruggen revealed.

The IOC team had to take into consideration every aspect of a potential venue, including the transportation, accessibility and seating capacity. And it's also very important for the athletes not to be far away from their venues, said Verbruggen.

The IOC member from the Netherlands declined to give detailed comments on the subject.
