2nd-Phase Project of Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant Enters Debugging Stage

The debugging work of the second-phase project of the Qinshan Nuclear Power Station was fully started as hydraulic pressure test kicked out on February 25.

This project is the first commercial nuclear power plant designed, built and managed by Chinese people themselves. The main part of the project was started in June 1996 and the first unit is scheduled to generate electricity in June 2002, after the two generating units are put into business operation, the annual power output is expected to exceed 8billion kwh, by then, it will effectively relieve the power shortage in the east China region and promote the local economic development.

According to the general manager of this project, the Qinshan power plant has solved the difficult technical problem and has mastered the technology to design and build large nuclear power stations; its key facilities, such as driving gear, steam producer, pressure vessels and voltage stabilizers, are all made at home, thus lifting the design, construction and facility production of China's nuclear power plants to a new level.

China has so far completed construction of the Qinshan and Daya Bay nuclear power stations and put them into operation. The second- and third-phase projects of Qinshan Nuclear Power Station, and the Ling'ao and the Tianwan nuclear power stations kicked off during the "Ninth Five-year Plan" period, their total installed capacity of 6.6 million kw, is three times that of the current two plants. The four nuclear power stations now under construction will be completed and put into business operation during the "10th Five-year Plan" period.
