Chinese President Meets Tung Chee Hwa
Chinese President Jiang Zemin met Monday with Tung Chee Hwa, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

Tung is in Beijing attending the opening ceremony of the fourth session of the Ninth National People's Congress (NPC).

Jiang fully affirmed the work by Tung and HKSAR government. He said that the central government will fully support the efforts of HKSAR government, led by Tung, in carrying out the Basic Law and ensuring Hong Kong's prosperity and stability.

Vice-Premier Qian Qichen and Liao Hui, director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, were present at the meeting.
