Sri Lanka's Tamil Rebels Surrender to Govt Forces

Five young Sri Lankan separatist Tamil Tiger rebels have surrendered to government forces in the Eastern Province following heavy attacks by the Special Task Force (STF) in the area, according to security sources on Monday.

Director Operations of the STF Sarath Silva said that during the past two weeks five rebels of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) had surrendered. Of them two were 15 and 17 years old while the other three were over 18 years.

Following STF attacks in the area several rebel hideouts had been destroyed and many supply routes had been blocked, he said.
