Cuba Condemns Czech-sponsored Draft Resolution on Human Rights

Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Angel Dalmau Fernandez has sharply condemned a Czech-sponsored draft for a UN Human Rights Committee resolution criticizing human rights violations in Cuba, the CTK news agency reported Tuesday.

The Czech Republic planned to submit an anti-Cuban draft resolution to the annual meeting of the U.N. Human Rights Commission, which will convene in Geneva on March 19. The United States expressed concern over the text of the resolution, which includes criticism of the US sanctions.

During his visit to Slovakia, Fernandez rejected any agreement between Prague and Havana in connection with the criticism of US economic sanctions against Cuba, which was a part of the draft resolution.

The resolution, either with a mention of the embargo or without it, is unacceptable to Cuba, Ferndandez added.

The deputy minister stressed that Cuba was not against dialogue on human rights, but it should be made on equal terms.
