One Killed, 22 Injured In Guangdong Plant Explosion

An explosion Sunday at a Taiwanese-funded plastic plant in south China's Guangdong province killed one worker and left 22 seriously injured.

An official with the Tangxia Township in Dongguan City said that the explosion occurred at about 10 AM Sunday when a few workers at the Zhengdian Plastic Plant in Lianhu village were cleaning machines and the floor at the molding workshop with a kind of flammable liquid detergent.

A fire broke out following the explosion, killing one and injuring 27, including five slightly injured. The fire was brought under control by 10:45 Sunday morning.

All the injured workers were hospitalized, said the official.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
