Two Suspects Involved in Rape, Robbery of S.Lankan Actress Arrested

The Sri Lankan police have arrested two army deserters in connection with the rape of a wealthy teledrama actress and the robbery of household goods valued at over 1 million rupees (around 11,760 US dollars) from her house at Talawa in Anuradhapura in the north central province.

The official Daily News quoted police as saying that the two men were arrested on Saturday at a brothel at Talawa which they had successfully operated with another army deserter. The teledrama actress is the wife of a leading businessman. The two men had called on her as a producer and director of teledramas and had invited her to act as a prostitute in a teledrama they were producing.

The actress was raped in a room where the two men had asked her to see the script of the teledrama. They also took nude photographs of her and threatened to distribute the photos if she told the incident to her husband.

The two men then took her to her house and forced her to give them 50,000 rupees (around 590 US dollars) and household goods and jewelry. They were later arrested by police on a tip-off from a woman who works at the brothel.
