Ethiopia Prepares Plan for Water Policy

Ethiopia has been in the process of preparing a sector strategic action plan for the realization of the objectives outlined in the country's water resource policy, Ethiopia's newspapers reported here Tuesday.

The strategy document prioritizes the interest and roles of stakeholders, such as policy makers, policy executors, beneficiaries and financiers, Ato Shiferaw Jarso, minister of Water Resources, was cited as saying Monday.

Various forums are being organized to solicit views from many stakeholders, and orient them to major directions, as part of the preparation for the strategic plan, said Shiferaw at a two-day symposium on water resource utilization in Ethiopia.

Ethiopia has about 2.6 million hectares of land that can not be developed due to lack of irrigation, said the reports.
