Shanxi Sets up Wetland Reserve

The provincial government of Shanxi Province in north China has approved establishment of the Yuncheng Wetland Reserve, a major migratory birds' winter habitat in the middle reaches of the Yellow River.

The reserve consists of two smaller reserves for swans and common cranes. There are some 200 kinds of birds living in the reserves.

Covering an area of 79,000 ha., the reserve will be the largest of its type in the province, sources said.

The province has applied for enlisting the reserve in state-level natural reserve list.
