Seaport Opening to Foreign Vessels Soon

Zhapu, a seaport on the coast of east China's Zhejiang Province is opening to foreign vessels soon, according to an official of the provincial government.

The official said the opening of the port in Pinghu city in northern Zhejiang will further improve the investment environment of the province and promote the development of the local economy.

Preparations for the opening of the port have got a pass from relevant authoritative department, with the waterway for foreign vessels decided and telecommunications, navigation and all other facilities in place.

Official figures show that the seaport, the only one in northern Zhejiang, received 600 vessels and handled 2.2 million tons of import and export goods over the last five years.

An expansion project is now underway at the port. Under construction is a 20,000-ton coal wharf, a 15,000-ton multipurpose wharf and a general cargo wharf of the same capacity.
