Shanghai Invests Heavily in Key Projects

This year Shanghai has key projects launched on an unprecedented greater construction scale over any year back in the 1990s. Forty-three projects have already been under construction with a total investment of 48.7 billion yuan made. These projects will play a significant role in advancing Shanghai's municipal construction during the"10th Five-year Plan"period (2001-2005).

According to plan, 28 projects will be completed and another 26 projects will be launched to ensure the city's advance during the latter period of the"10th Five-year Plan".

Shanghai will be developed into an international competitive metropolis, urban construction will focus on multifunctional facilities. Industry construction will concentrate on building four industrial bases including Zhangjiang, Caojing, Shanghai Volkswagen, Shanghai Bao Steel Corporation to make sure that a new round of industry structure upgrading is to be carried out and environmental protection will be stressed on flood prevention, air pollution control and afforestation.
