Drama Performance Recapitulates Literature Giant

A chronicle stage play portraying the life of Lu Xun premiered recently in Beijing to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the eminent master of literature.

Lu Xun (1181-1936), a great writer, thinker, and revolutionist, is considered by many to be the father of modern Chinese literature and the foremost representative of the nation's conscience.

The epic "Mr. Lu Xun", comprising five parts based on historical events in Lu's life, was characterized with the unique accompaniment of popular ballads and vocalists.

The performance, given by Central Experimental Modern Drama Theater, adopts many elements of traditional theater, yet it is still thoroughly unconventional as a dramatic work.

A particular point of the play is that the lines are sung by the performers, who don't wear make-up and don't really act as well. The plot is told by a narrator.
