100th Birthday of Renowned Chinese Architect Marked in Beijing

A symposium marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of Liang Sicheng, a renowned Chinese architect, was held in Beijing Friday.

The debut of the "Collections of Liang Sicheng" was simultaneously made in the Great Hall of the People.

Liang, born in 1901, was the initiator of China's modern architecture. He died in 1972.

He was engaged in the research, survey, investigation and gauge of many historically significant ancient buildings, and sorted out a number of ancient writings on construction.

Liang took part in the designing of the National Emblem of the People's Republic of China and the Monument to the People's Heroes. He devoted considerably to the scientific methodology on study of Chinese architecture.

He wrote a number of special academic books on the history of Chinese ancient architecture and survey reports on ancient architectures.

Liang founded the Architecture Faculty of Qinghua University and served as the dean and professor of the Architecture Faculty.

More than 100 people including his family members, former good friends and teachers and students from Qinghua University attended Friday's symposium.
