Ethiopia to Receive Humanitarian Assistance From EC

The European Commission (EC) has approved a new budget totaling 5.98 million US dollars for humanitarian assistance to Ethiopia in 2001, according to official sources of the EC Tuesday in Addis Ababa.

The funds are to be channeled by the European Commission of Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO) through various non-governmental organizations, U.N. Agencies and the Red Cross.

The funds will be mainly used to counter the drought in Ethiopia and repatriate Somali refugees, the sources said.
