HK Commerce & Industry Secretary Meets U.S. Counterpart

Secretary for Commerce and Industry of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region CHAU Tak Hay met the United States Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans Wednesday in Washington to discuss trade policy issues of common interest, according to a government press release available here Thursday .

Earlier, CHAU also had meetings with the U.S. Trade Representative Robert Zoellick and the U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economics, Business and Agriculture Alan Larson.

CHAU is now on a five-day visit to Washington and Geneva to foster links with the new U.S. administration and to exchange views on the global trade policy agenda, including the prospects for launching a new round of multilateral trade negotiations under the World Trade Organization (WTO).

CHAU will arrive in Geneva Thursday to meet Director-General of the World Trade Organization Mike Moore, as well as the Permanent Representatives of some WTO members.
